2018 Township Road Improvement Program

Sparta Township evaluates the condition of its road system on an annual basis as part of its ongoing roadway maintenance program.   The Engineering and Public Works Departments work together to evaluate the condition of each roadway in the community and compile a list of municipal roads recommended for improvement annually.  Using different criteria and a rating matrix, selected roads are either paved or scheduled for microsurfacing.  This evaluation process is applied to the more than 110 miles of roadway the Township is responsible for.

This year, the Township has budgeted funds as part of its Road Improvement Program to pave six (6) roads and microsurface twenty-six (26) roads.  This work will result in approximately twelve (12) miles of roadway being improved during 2018.

The following roads are tentatively scheduled to be improved this summer and should be completed prior to the end of September:

**  2018 Road Resurfacing Program **

The Township will begin its 2018 Road Resurfacing Program starting Friday, July 20th and tentatively ending on Monday, August 6th.  The vendor, Asphalt Paving Systems, will be providing each resident affected with a minimum of 48 hour notice when their street will be treated.  Work will be conducted between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.  Once construction begins, your road will be closed to all vehicles for approximately 3 hours.  Please arrange to park all vehicles off the street while this process is being performed.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

For questions please call the Public Works Department at 973-729-6178 between the hours of 7am and 3pm

The Public Works Department has many responsibilities. The majority of these duties are to repair and maintain over 100 miles of Township Roads.  Snow and Ice control operations are the most visible and most expensive task. Maintenance of Township buildings and grounds are provided through this Department. The Mechanics Division repairs and maintains all Township equipment, trucks and cars.
Please feel free to give the Public Works Department a call with any questions.  Our office staff is available Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
