ADVISORY COMMITTEES
CULTURAL AFFAIRS
The Cultural Affairs Committee is formed by volunteers seeking to bring varied cultural events to the Township residents. Beginning in June through August, a free concert every Friday night is provided to all citizens. These concerts offer a variety of musical events.
MUNICIPAL ALLIANCE
This committee advises the Manager and Council on issues relating to youth in the community. It also oversees the Municipal Alliance grant for drug prevention. The Committee meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month (Sept-June)
RECREATION COMMITTEE
The Recreation Committee assists the Parks and Recreation Dept. in the assessment of ongoing programs and the development of new programs. This Committee meets on 1st Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Library.
SENIOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Senior Advisory Committee. keeps Council informed of matters affecting Sparta's seniors. This Committee meets on the 4th Thursday of the month at 9:00 a.m. at the Senior Center at Knoll Heights Village.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
The Economic Development Committee recommends to the Manager, Council and the Planning Board desirable and suitable areas within the township for business expansion and development-redevelopment. The Committee meets on the first Monday of each month at 8:30 am in Town Hall, 65 Main Street.
STATUTORY BOARDS
ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION
The Environmental Commission advises the Town Council and the Planning Board on open space, plans and programs for development. The Commission meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 8:00 p.m. at Town Hall, 65 Main Street.
LIBRARY BOARD
The Library Board, governed by the Board of Trustees, establishes library policy and sets goals and objectives. The Board meets on the second Wednesday of each month (Jan. to June) at 5:00 p.m. at the Library.
PLANNING BOARD
The Planning Board is charged with reviewing site plan and subdivision applications. The Planning Board is also responsible for updating the Master Plan of the Township. The Board meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 65 Main Street.
ZONING BOARD
The Zoning Board hears zoning variance applications and appeals from rulings and determinations arising from the enforcement of Township zoning ordinances. The Board meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 65 Main Street.
