Frequently Asked Questions
| |
How long after the Oil & Stone process is applied do you sweep the roads? After the Oil & Stone process is completed the time we sweep the road varies depending on the type of road and the speed traveled on the road. Usually it takes about two weeks for the stone to set and be pushed to the edges of the road. After the stones have moved to the edge of the road we need a cool or rainy day for the sweeper to be able to remove the loose stone.
| |
Why is Oil & Stone used on the roads?
The liquid Polymer asphalt that is sprayed on the road surface during this application has the ability to seal all small cracks that we either cannot see or that we cannot seal with our crack sealer. This liquid stops the penetration of water through the asphalt road surface. When water gets below the paved surface of the road during winter months the freezing and thawing allows the aggregates to separate. When traffic continually passes over this void a pothole is created.
After the liquid polymer asphalt is applied either 1/4” or 3/8” stone is applied. The 1/4” is used on lower speed traffic areas like developments. The 3/8” stone is used for roads that have a higher speed or are considered a through road. These stones fill in voids on the roads surface and also makes a new riding surface so that traction and braking of vehicles improves.

Where does our water come from? Ground water and primarily from rock wells.

Why does my water have bubbles in it? Sometimes our wells will pump air mixed with the water. The water may look discolored when first poured into a glass, but it clears as the air bubbles rise in the glass. This is simply air and is not harmful.
| |
How do we know our water is safe to drink? The township is required to comply with N.J.D.E.P. regulations covering the frequency of testing and the standards for compounds in our water. Various tests are taken daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly.

How do I determine if I have a water leak? The best method for determining whether a leak exists is to take actual water meter readings. This method checks the entire internal plumbing system for water leaks. Take a water meter reading just before going to bed or when no one will use any water for several hours. Take another meter reading in the morning before any water is used or after a few hours of non-use. In theory, the two readings should be the same. If they are not and you cannot account for the use by a humidifier, ice cube maker, toilet flush, or watersoftener, you have a leak, and further investigation is recommended.
