Welcome to Sparta. If this is your first visit to Sparta, we hope that it is pleasant. For those of you who are just settling in, we would like to provide some useful information.
The Township of Sparta, with its beautiful lakes, mountains, and farmland, is a residential community offering a wide variety of amenities. The approximate distances from Sparta to nearby larger cities are: Morristown - 25 miles, Trenton - 55 miles, Atlantic City - 110 miles, and New York City - 45 miles. Nearby airports are: Newark International Airport - 50 miles, La Guardia Airport - 58 miles, and John F. Kennedy Airport - 69 miles. The Township consists of 39 square miles with elevations of up to 1,200 feet and a population of approximately 19,000.
The Township has 11 private lake communities spread throughout the Township. The largest of these is Lake Mohawk, whose Boardwalk and Plaza are listed on the State and National Historic Registers.
Sparta is honored to have been selected by New Jersey Monthly (March 1999) as one of the state's "25 Greatest Towns."
